The former Bush administration made international news as current President Obama is putting some on trial for possible torturing of human beings. We all know that the United States is "against" torture because it is inhumane. This article has a few of the quotes from a press conference held earlier. What is torture of another human being? Is it simply inflicting physical pain? Or is it something more?
Also I would like to know what the United States position on torture should be. Some say that it is against the fundamental rights of a human being. Others say that it is a way to get usefull information. What do you think? Is torture wrong, right, or both? And what should the U.S.'s position be on it?
I believe that torture is wrong. All of the means and ways are unmorale and unethical. But what makes it right? The fact that it is national security or world disaster? Does this give us the right to take away people's own basic human rights in order to find out simple information in order to make an arrest?
ReplyDeleteI believe that torture is a necessary evil because if it is a matter of national security then we can't just ask nicely for information. Torture is still wrong, but it might be the only way to obtain information that would prevent a disaster.
ReplyDeleteI can respect that Tab is sticking to his guns on this one, but i have to agree with Chris here. I mean, these terrorists knew that there would be alot of danger when they "signed up". They lead dangerous lives and don't seem to care about other people's lives. I say that we give 'em a tatse of their own medicine(but only if we desperatley need the information, not just for kicks).
ReplyDeleteLike chris said tourture is a necessary evil from my stand point. To get information from someone you need to be convincing to them that if they dont give it to them we will start messing days up. You cant be so leinient to the ememies.
ReplyDelete9Yes, Ibelieve in war we should be allowed to toture captured terrorist inorder to gsin information we have to look at the big picture on how many lives are at stake and it is war at that. War should not have a limit on torture
