Holidays Losing Meaning???

Okay so here is the deal. I just got back from the Easter Vigil at my church. Some people know that the Vigil is the time that you sit in church for hours upon hours and the mass seems to drag on. But I realized that Easter is a lot more than i remember. That I seemed to lose sight on what Easter was all about. So my question to you is what is Easter like for your family? Are you the family that goes to the Vigil, or do you go to only the Easter Sunday mass with your family? This article really makes a good point as to what Easter should and should not be like.

Another question that I would like to ask is what other holidays in our society seem to be losing their meaning? And if there are any what changes should be made to them? When writing your response try to take into account what you were raised up to believe what the holidays meant.

  2. My family and I usually go to the Easter Mass on Sunday and not the Easter Vigil on Saturday night. But this year we decided to go to the Easter Vigil. My mother was reading at the Mass and my younger sister was an altar server. It was an experience that I have never had before. I was just expecting this really long and boring Mass that I would not be interested in. But it turned out not to be that bad and I was very intrigued in it.

I was surprised in how much singing was involved. But the most unexpected thing of all was that more than half of the Mass was in almost complete darkness, besides some of the light upon the altar. Another holiday that I think is losing its meaning is one of the other most important holidays in Christmas. Christmas is about Jesus being born and not about receiving presents. But nowadays I think people are forgetting that and are mostly excited for their new gifts.

  3. My family has stopped going to church, but we still celebrate easter by having family dinners. I think the holidays are losing their meaning and a prime example of this would be Christmas.

  4. My family does not celebrate Easter at all. To us, especially myself this holiday is pretty much fictional. I don't really believe in God in the first place so Easter really is not a true holiday. I have not been to mass since I was old enough to think for myself.
